When is my election or change in election effective?

The following chart summarizes when your election is effective after enrollment:

During Open Season

By Midnight EST on the last day of Open Season.

January 1 of the following year.

You may change your election if you experience a QLE, or next Open Season.

During Belated Enrollment

By Midnight EST of the day the belated enrollment is submitted.

Either January 1 OR the day after your election is received and approved by FSAFEDS.

You may change your election if you experience a QLE, or next Open Season.

As a new/newly eligible employee, within 60 days of becoming eligible, before October 1

By Midnight EST of the day your new hire enrollment is submitted.

The day after your election is received and approved by FSAFEDS.

The following chart summarizes when your election is effective after submitting a Qualifying Life Event (QLE):

Results in a new DCFSA enrollment or a change to your existing DCFSA enrollment

A QLE must be submitted 31 days before to 60 days after the date of the event. A QLE resulting in a new enrollment or an increase to an existing election must be submitted prior to October 1.

The first day of the first pay period following the approval of the QLE by FSAFEDS. If the change is requested due to the birth or adoption of a child, the change will be effective retroactively to the date of birth or placement for adoption.

You may change your election if you experience a second QLE, or next Open Season.

Results in a new HCFSA or LEX HCFSA enrollment

A QLE must be submitted 31 days before to 60 days after the date of the event, and prior to October 1.

The first day of the first pay period following the approval of the QLE by FSAFEDS.

You may change your election if you experience a second QLE, or next Open Season.

Results in a change to your existing HCFSA or LEX HCFSA enrollment
